Evolutionary traits of Tick-borne encephalitis virus: Pervasive non-coding RNA structure conservation and molecular epidemiology

Lena S. Kutschera et al.

Summary: In this study, we characterized the diversity of TBEV UTR structureome and proposed a unified understanding of pervasive non-coding RNA structure conservation based on comparative genomic approaches and thermodynamic modeling. We also provided an updated phylogeny of TBEV and investigated molecular epidemiology and phylodynamics using Nextstrain, a web-based visualization framework for real-time pathogen evolution.

The complex interplay of climate, TBEV vector dynamics and TBEV infection rates in ticks-Monitoring a natural TBEV focus in Germany, 2009-2018

Johannes P. Borde et al.

Summary: The study found no significant correlation between the transmission of tick-borne encephalitis virus and meteorological factors or tick population numbers, but there was a positive correlation between the number of nymphs and the number of reported human TBE cases in the following months. However, this correlation does not persist into the following year.

Associating Land Cover Changes with Patterns of Incidences of Climate-Sensitive Infections: An Example on Tick-Borne Diseases in the Nordic Area

Didier G. Leibovici et al.

Summary: Climate change may lead to changes in the geographical distribution of ticks and their hosts, increasing the incidence of climate-sensitive infections. A study found that certain districts in Nordic regions experienced a steady increase in Lyme borreliosis and tick-borne encephalitis over the past two decades, potentially due to increased habitat suitability for ticks and hosts.
