Calcite in combination with olive pulp biochar reduces Ni mobility in soil and its distribution in chili plant

Veysel Turan

Summary: The addition of a mixture of olive pulp biochar and calcite can effectively reduce the bioavailability of nickel in soil, improve soil enzymatic activities, and reduce nickel content in plant parts. This contributes to enhanced plant growth and reduced oxidative stress.

Natural diversity in fatty acids profiles and antioxidant properties of sumac fruits (Rhus coriaria L.): Selection of preferable populations for food industries

Mohammad Reza Morshedloo et al.

Summary: The study investigated the oil content, fatty acid composition, and antioxidant properties of twelve Iranian sumac fruit accessions, revealing variations in oil content and fatty acid composition among different populations, with the Arasbaran population showing the highest characteristics. These findings suggest the possibility of utilizing elite populations with high ratios of unsaturated fatty acids and antioxidant compounds in the food industry.

Introducing Three New Fruit-Scented Mints to Farmlands: Insights on Drug Yield, Essential-Oil Quality, and Antioxidant Properties

Hosein Ahmadi et al.

Summary: This study compared the yield, antioxidant properties, and essential-oil (EO) quality of different mint species. The results showed that grapefruit mint had the highest yield and EO content, while ginger mint had the highest antioxidant activity. Pineapple and grapefruit mint had the highest flavonoids content and DPPH scavenging activity. Gas chromatography analysis identified specific EO types in each mint. These findings have important implications for the cultivation of mint varieties with desired characteristics for the food and drug industries.

Synergetic Efficacy of Amending Pb-Polluted Soil with P-Loaded Jujube (Ziziphus mauritiana) Twigs Biochar and Foliar Chitosan Application for Reducing Pb Distribution in Moringa Leaf Extract and Improving Its Anti-cancer Potential

Bilal Rasool et al.

Summary: Soil polluted from Pb-acid batteries effluents (SPB) can reduce the therapeutic potentials of Moringa oleifera and contaminate groundwater and surrounding soils. Amending SPB with P-loaded jujube twigs biochar (P-TB) can overcome these problems. Chitosan spray (CHs) on moringa growing on SPB can further stimulate the production of essential phytochemicals and improve its anti-proliferative effects on human liver cancer cells.

The Role of Polyphenols in Abiotic Stress Response: The Influence of Molecular Structure

Dunja Samec et al.

Summary: Abiotic stressors such as extreme temperatures, drought, flood, light, salt, and heavy metals can affect biological diversity and crop production. Plants have mechanisms to cope with these stressors, and polyphenols, a group of plant-specialized metabolites, play a role in stress protection. Different polyphenol structures have varying biological activities and roles in abiotic stress responses.

Alleviation of Copper-Induced Stress in Pea (Pisum sativum L.) through Foliar Application of Gibberellic Acid

Talha Javed et al.

Summary: The foliar application of gibberellic acid (GA(3)) was found to enhance the growth and physiological variables of pea plants grown in both contaminated and non-contaminated soil, mitigating the phytotoxic effects of copper and alleviating oxidative stress. The application of GA(3) increased the activity of antioxidant enzymes and promoted copper accumulation in plant parts, ultimately improving phytoextraction and plant performance in copper-polluted soils.

Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) induce salt tolerance by improving the antioxidant system and photosynthetic machinery in tomato

Mohammad Faizan et al.

Summary: Foliar application of zinc oxide nanoparticles significantly enhances the growth performance and salt tolerance of tomato plants, increasing chlorophyll content and photosynthetic attributes. Zinc oxide nanoparticles mitigate the negative impact of salt stress on tomato growth, enhancing protein content and antioxidative enzyme activity.

Roya Emrahi et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of water deficit stress on biochemical traits and essential oil profiles of two carvacrol-rich subspecies of Oregano. The results showed that subsp. hirtum had higher dry weight, essential oil, and carvacrol content, with a positive correlation between dry weight and EO content.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and pistachio husk biochar combination reduces Ni distribution in mungbean plant and improves plant antioxidants and soil enzymes

Veysel Turan

Summary: The combined treatment of PHB + AMF showed the most significant increase in plant physical parameters while reducing the distribution of Ni in plant parts and oxidative injury. Based on these findings, it is proposed that the PHB + AMF treatment can reduce Ni distribution and oxidative stress in mung bean plants and improve the biochemical compounds in grains.
