Rational Design of Mixed Polyanion Electrodes NaxV2P3-i(Si/S)iO12 for Sodium Batteries

Vishakha Kapoor et al.

Summary: In this research, the effect of changing polyanion groups on the redox voltages and the gravimetric capacities of polyanion electrodes was investigated using first-principles calculations. The results showed that the activation of the VV/IV redox couple and the increase in average Na intercalation voltage can be achieved by substituting a small amount of SiO44- in the polyanion groups. On the other hand, substituting with SO42- increased the voltage of each V redox couple but decreased the maximum amount of Na+ intercalated. Exploiting the varying inductive effects of different polyanion groups can effectively tune the energy density of NaSICON electrode materials.

DFT investigations of KTiOPO4Mx (M = K, Na, and Li) anodes for alkali-ion battery

Jiajia Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, the properties of KTiOPO4Mx (M = K, Na, and Li; x = 0.000-1.000) as an anode for PIBs, SIBs, and LIBs were investigated using density functional theory calculations and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. The results reveal that KTiOPO4 shows superior electrochemical performance as an anode for PIBs compared to SIBs and LIBs, in terms of average voltage and ion diffusion kinetics. Furthermore, the KTiOPO4 anode exhibits high structural stability, and alkali ion intercalation contributes to accelerating ion diffusion during the charging process.

Rational Design of Two-Dimensional Porous Boron Phosphide as Efficient Cathode Material for Li and Na Ion Batteries: A First-Principles Study

Atish Ghosh et al.

Summary: In this study, a porous boron phosphide (p-BP) monolayer is proposed as an excellent cathode material for Li/Na-ion batteries based on density functional theory calculations. The calculated results demonstrate that the p-BP monolayer has superior electronic conductivity, sufficient stability, and appropriate diffusion energy barriers, making it a promising candidate for next-generation battery materials.

Oxygen vacancies in KTiOPO4: Optical absorption from hybrid DFT

A. Bocchini et al.

Summary: In this study, density functional theory was applied to calculate the optical absorption of oxygen vacancies in potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) crystals. The results showed that the presence of oxygen vacancies significantly influenced the optical absorption properties of the crystals, particularly in the +1 and neutral charge states, where midgap optical absorption was observed within the near-infrared and visible spectrum.

Summary: In this study, many-body perturbation theory based on density-functional theory calculations was used to investigate the quasiparticle band structures and dielectric functions of isomorphic ferroelectrics rubidium titanyl phosphate and potassium titanyl arsenide. The self-energy corrections were found to significantly increase the transport band gaps of both materials, while strong exciton binding energies were observed.
