Detecting the ground-dependent structural damages in a historic mosque by employing GPR

Nursen Isik et al.

Summary: This study uses ground penetrating radar (GPR) to investigate the causes of underground cavities and structural issues in Iskender Pasha Mosque. The GPR measurements reveal serious subsidence anomalies and a water table beneath the mosque, which may cause future problems. The study also confirms that the anomalies beneath the ground directly affect the walls of the mosque. The results show that GPR can effectively detect anomalies in historic structures and their surroundings without causing any damage.

Inspection of concrete structures externally reinforced with FRP composites using active infrared thermography: A review

Mahesh Yumnam et al.

Summary: Fiber reinforced polymer composites play a crucial role in reinforced concrete structures, but their external reinforcements are prone to debonding issues which require early detection and characterization. Infrared thermography has emerged as a fast-imaging technique for identifying and characterizing surface and near-surface defects, aided by the development of new thermography and post-processing techniques. Sophisticated thermography techniques and novel post-processing approaches have been explored for defect characterization in FRP bonded concrete, but there is still potential for further research in this area to improve defect detection, especially for near-surface flaws.
