Prospects for cotton self-sufficiency in China by closing yield gaps

Yucheng Wang et al.

Summary: China is the world's second largest producer of cotton but the largest consumer, heavily reliant on imports. Recent changes have seen the production center shift to Xinjiang, with a potential for significant production increase and selfsufficiency ratio reaching over 90%. Further opportunities for production increase exist in other major cotton-growing provinces such as Hebei and Hubei.

Rainfed crop yield response to climate change in Iran

Mahdi Ghamghami et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the yield variations of rainfed crops in Iran using multiple linear regression models. The results show that, except for a few crops like potato and clover, the strategic crops providing food and forage will experience a decrease in yield by up to 80% due to climate change. It is important for decision-makers to adopt management options to mitigate the impacts of climate change and ensure sustainable food security.

Hydrothermal conditions impact yield, yield gap and water use efficiency of dryland wheat under different mulching practice in the Loess Plateau

Xuyang Han et al.

Summary: Mulching practices have significant effects on wheat yield and water use efficiency, but the effects vary under different precipitation and temperature conditions. Plastic film mulching and straw mulching can increase wheat yield and water use efficiency, and the effects are influenced by temperature and precipitation.

The Impacts of Climate Change on Water Resources and Crop Production in an Arid Region

Samira Shayanmehr et al.

Summary: Climate change has a severe impact on water resources, crop production, and agricultural sustainability in Iran's arid environment. A new integrated climate-hydrological-economic model and multicriteria decision making technique were used to assess the impact of future climate change. The findings show that water availability will decrease and crop production will reduce, with adverse effects on economic and environmental aspects of the agricultural system.

A meta-analysis of the possible impact of climate change on global cotton yield based on crop simulation approaches

Na Li et al.

Summary: A systematic meta-analysis was conducted on the impact of climate change on cotton yields in major cotton-planting regions. The study found that temperature, precipitation, CO2 concentration changes, adaptive measures, study area, climate models, and climate scenarios significantly affected cotton yield change. Adapative measures and elevated CO2 concentrations could alleviate the negative impact of climate change on cotton yields.

Application of Interval Fuzzy Logic in Selecting a Sustainable Supplier on the Example of Agricultural Production

Adis Puska et al.

Summary: The study focused on selecting sustainable suppliers using asymmetric information and multi-criteria decision-making. Economic criteria were found to be the most significant, followed by social criteria, with ecological criteria being the least important. Supplier ranking using the MABAC method revealed that supplier A4 best met sustainability criteria. This was further confirmed using other MCDM methods and sensitivity analysis.

Climate change, soil water conservation, and productivity: Evidence from cocoa farmers in Ghana

Bismark Amfo et al.

Summary: The study found that cocoa farmers in Ghana adopt various soil water conservation practices to mitigate the negative effects of climate change, with these practices directly impacting cocoa productivity. Factors such as farm size, land ownership, age, income, training, and government support also influence the adoption of soil water conservation practices among cocoa farmers.

Approach for optimizing the water-land-food-energy nexus in agroforestry systems under climate change

Mo Li et al.

Summary: This paper develops an optimization model framework for the sustainable management of limited water-land-food-energy resources in agroforestry systems under climate change. The aim is to quantify interactions and feedbacks within water, land, food, and energy subsystems, provide trade-offs among water and energy utilization efficiency, economic benefits, and environmental protection in agroforestry systems, and generate optimal policy options for different crops and woodlands in different regions under different climate change patterns.

Integrating cluster analysis with MCDM methods for the evaluation of local agricultural production

Omurbek Nuri et al.

Summary: This study aims to cluster Turkish cities based on their local agricultural production and rank them in terms of performance using cluster analysis and MCDM methods. The results show that only a few cities such as Konya, Antalya, and Mersin are generating significant agricultural outputs, suggesting that local governments should reconsider their agricultural policies.
