Novel Lead Compound Discovery from Aspergillus fumigatus 1T-2against Meloidogyne incognita Based on a Chemical Ecology Study

Linsong Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, an antagonistic fungus with the ability to inhibit root-knot nematodes (RKNs) was isolated, and a compound called 2-furoic acid was identified as a potential nematode-antagonistic agent. 2-furoic acid exhibited effective mortality activity against RKNs and had negative effects on nematode vitality and egg hatchability. In greenhouse tests, the fungus fermentation broth and 2-furoic acid showed significant control efficacy against RKNs.

Novel α-Amylase Inhibitor Hemi-Pyocyanin Produced by Microbial Conversion of Chitinous Discards

Thi Hanh Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study discovered a new potential α-amylase inhibitor (aAI) produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa TUN03 through fermentation. Shrimp heads powder was identified as the most suitable carbon/nitrogen source. Scaling up production in a 14 L bioreactor system yielded a high amount of the aAI in a shorter fermentation time compared to flask fermentation. The major compound, known as hemi-pyocyanin (HPC), exhibited strong inhibitory activity against α-amylase, making it a promising candidate for the development of antidiabetic drugs. Docking studies revealed that HPC binds to the enzyme's active site, inhibiting its activity.

Summary: Essential oils extracted from Patchouli leaves in different regions of India showed potential nematicidal effects, primarily attributed to patchoulol and alpha-bulnesene. In vitro assays demonstrated significant nematocidal activity against Meloidogyne incognita, with molecular modeling suggesting a multi-modal inhibitive action against target proteins such as acetyl cholinesterase. Understanding the structure-activity relationship of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons can aid in developing eco-friendly nematicides.
