Apple leaf disease recognition method with improved residual network

Helong Yu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an MSO-ResNet apple leaf disease recognition model based on ResNet50, which improves the identification accuracy and speed of the model by optimizing the model structure and parameters. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model achieves high precision and fast recognition in leaf disease identification.

Machine learning: its challenges and opportunities in plant system biology

Mohsen Hesami et al.

Summary: As sequencing technologies continue to advance, generating massive amounts of multidimensional data in plants, the integration of different omics datasets becomes crucial in order to gain comprehensive insights into plant biological systems. Machine learning offers promising approaches to integrate large datasets and recognize patterns, but optimization is needed to process multi-omics data.

Using computer vision to identify seed-borne fungi and other targets associated with common bean seeds based on red-green-blue spectral data

Edson Ampelio Pozza et al.

Summary: The science of seed pathology has been established since the development and application of standardized methods for assessing seed health to meet the needs of the seed industry and associated regulatory entities. Despite seed health testing being a routine operation in most countries, results of testing often vary from one laboratory to another. We evaluated computer vision using red-green-blue (RGB) imagery and machine learning algorithms to detect seed-borne fungi on common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) seeds.

Recent Advances in Molecular Diagnostics of Fungal Plant Pathogens: A Mini Review

Ganeshamoorthy Hariharan et al.

Summary: Phytopathogenic fungal species can cause significant losses in crop yield and quality, making precise and rapid detection and identification of plant infecting fungi essential for effective disease management. DNA-based methods have become popular for accurate plant disease diagnostics, but more reliable, faster, and easier molecular diagnostic techniques are needed for practical use.

Image-Based Methods to Score Fungal Pathogen Symptom Progression and Severity in Excised Arabidopsis Leaves

Mirko Pavicic et al.

Summary: Image-based symptom scoring is a powerful tool for associating disease resistance with plant genotypes. This study presents two strategies for assessing severity and symptom progression of Botrytis infection in Arabidopsis leaves using pixel classification and chlorophyll fluorescence imaging. Both strategies provide robust and sensitive methods for tracking disease progression over time.

Detecting Infected Cucumber Plants with Close-Range Multispectral Imagery

Claudio Fernandez et al.

Summary: This study utilized close-range multispectral imagery to detect powdery mildew on cucumber plants in a commercial greenhouse. By registering images and computing features, a SVM algorithm was used to classify healthy and infected pixels. The best vegetation index image was PMVI-2 with an overall accuracy of 81%.
