Pre-soaking in Weed Extracts is a Reasonable Approach to Mitigate Fusarium graminearum Infection in Wheat

Sherien E. Sobhy et al.

Summary: Root rot and head blight caused by soil-borne fungi are prevalent diseases that endanger global food security. This study examines the interaction of Fusarium graminearum with weed extracts, showing that priming wheat grains with purslane or chard extracts can enhance growth rate, balance chlorophyll content, and reduce the detrimental effects of F. graminearum infection on wheat seedlings.

Defense Responses and Metabolic Changes Involving Phenylpropanoid Pathway and PR Genes in Squash (Cucurbita pepo L.) following Cucumber mosaic virus Infection

Ahmed Abdelkhalek et al.

Summary: The current study investigates the effects of Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) infection on phytochemical changes and gene activities associated with pathogenesis and the phenylpropanoid pathway in squash plants. The results show that CMV infection can impact the transcript levels of defense-related genes and induce changes in the synthesis of phenolic, flavonoid, and fatty acid compounds in squash plants.

First Report of Protective Activity of Paronychia argentea Extract against Tobacco Mosaic Virus Infection

Ahmed Abdelkhalek et al.

Summary: The study investigated the protective activity of Paronychia argentea extract against tobacco mosaic virus infection in tomato plants. Results showed that the extract enhanced plant growth, reduced virus accumulation, and induced systemic resistance with increased production of antioxidant enzymes and pathogenesis-related proteins. HPLC analysis identified several abundant polyphenolic compounds in the extract. The findings suggest the potential of P. argentea extract as a safe and effective source of bioactive compounds for managing plant viral infections.
