Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extraction of Vegetable Oils: Retrospective and Prospects

Olivia Dhara et al.

Summary: Supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) extraction is a viable alternative to conventional hexane extraction due to its density-dependent solvent power, low viscosity, high diffusion coefficient, and low-temperature operative conditions. It can retain bioactive compounds in oils and avoid degradation of essential fatty acids. The use of SC-CO2 can also reduce costs. This paper provides a detailed review of the application of SC-CO2 for the extraction of vegetable oils.

Solubility of Rosmarinic Acid in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extraction from Orthosiphon stamineus Leaves

Ahmad Hazim Abdul Aziz et al.

Summary: Supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2) extraction with the addition of ethanol was used to extract rosmarinic acid (RA) from Orthosiphon stamineus (OS) leaves. The solubility of RA in SCCO2 was determined using a dynamic extraction approach, and the solubility data were correlated with three density-based semi-empirical models. The maximum RA solubility was found at 80 degrees C and 10 MPa, and the fastest extraction rate was recorded at the same conditions.
