Fabrication of Lead Free Borate Glasses Modified by Bismuth Oxide for Gamma Ray Protection Applications

Yas Al-Hadeethi et al.

Summary: In this study, bismuth borate glass samples were prepared using the melt quenching technique and their shielding ability was evaluated by measuring parameters such as mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) and transmission factor (TF). The results showed that the addition of Bi2O3 improved the shielding performance of the glass and higher energy photons were more easily able to penetrate the glass than lower energy photons.

A Study on the Gamma Radiation Protection Effectiveness of Nano/Micro-MgO-Reinforced Novel Silicon Rubber for Medical Applications

M. Sayyed et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers investigated the potential of novel polymer composites for radiation protection applications. By incorporating different concentrations of micro- and nano-sized MgO into silicon rubber, the researchers found that the polymer composites with nano-MgO exhibited higher linear attenuation factors and lower mean free paths compared to those with micro-MgO. These findings highlight the importance of using high MgO content in silicon rubber for low-energy radiation protection applications.
