Magnetic-MXene-based nanocomposites for water and wastewater treatment: A review

Akbar Hojjati-Najafabadi et al.

Summary: The increase in pollutants released into water resources, such as hazardous refractory contaminations, organic dyes, pharmaceutical and pesticide contaminants, due to population growth and global industrialization, has become a major health issue worldwide. Magnetic MXene nanocomposites, which possess unique properties, easy production, low-cost preparation, and excellent pollutant degradation abilities, show great promise for various applications including biosensors, cancer theragnostic, imaging strategies, and particularly water treatment. This paper provides a review of the use of magnetic-MXene nanocomposites for removing contaminants from aqueous environments, discussing the concept of magnetic nanomaterials in water treatment, MXene applications and implications for water and wastewater pollutant degradation, and the role of magnetic-MXene nanocomposites in water treatment. Future trends in MXene and magnetic-MXene nanomaterials for water treatment and environmental applications are also discussed.

Statistical methods for assessing water quality after treatment on a sequencing batch reactor

Alina Barbulescu et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the statistical analysis of water parameters in a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), showing good efficiency when working with six water parameters and marginal efficiency when working with ten parameters. Low efficiencies of nitrates, total dissolved solids, and chlorine removal are observed.

Simultaneous nitrification-denitrifying phosphorus removal (SNDPR) at low DO for treating carbon-limited municipal wastewater

Masuduz Zaman et al.

Summary: This study focused on simultaneous nitrification-denitrifying phosphorus removal in a sequencing batch reactor. The process achieved high N and P removal efficiencies in a wide range of COD/N ratios without the addition of volatile fatty acids (VFA). Key factors influencing the process efficiency included COD/N ratio, ffCOD/(TKNoxidized + NOx-N-initial) ratio, and the two-step phosphorus release during the anaerobic period.

Reclamation of water from dairy wastewater using membrane bioreactor (MBR)-Membrane filtration processes

Ranjana Kumari et al.

Summary: In India, there are approximately 400 dairy plants in operation, producing wastewater with high organic load and suspended solids. A study utilizing MBR and membrane filtration processes successfully achieved complete removal of organic loads and total solids from the wastewater for water reuse.
