Proapoptotic Effect and Molecular Docking Analysis of Curcumin-Resveratrol Hybrids in Colorectal Cancer Chemoprevention

Gustavo Moreno-Q et al.

Summary: In this study, hybrids based on curcumin and resveratrol were synthesized and evaluated for their potential anticancer properties. The results showed that these hybrids can induce mitochondrial instability and apoptotic processes in colon cancer cells. Furthermore, some of these compounds exhibited cytostatic effects by causing cell cycle arrest. These curcumin resveratrol hybrids could be promising candidates for further investigation as chemopreventive agents, especially in cases with resistance to conventional chemotherapy.

Colorectal Cancer Chemoprevention by S-Allyl Cysteine-Caffeic Acid Hybrids: In Vitro Biological Activity and In Silico Studies

Angie Herrera-Ramirez et al.

Summary: Conventional chemotherapy for colorectal cancer has limited efficacy and can lead to drug resistance. Two hybrids (SAC-CAFA-MET and SAC-CAFA-PENT) have been found to exhibit selective cytotoxicity against colorectal cancer cells and show better results than the conventional chemotherapeutic agent 5-fluorouracil. Further investigations have revealed that these compounds reduce ROS formation, induce cell death through different pathways, and have anti-inflammatory effects.

Coffee in cancer chemoprevention: an updated review

Tariq Ismail et al.

Summary: Chemoprevention of cancer involves using natural or synthetic compounds to interfere with various stages of tumor development. Coffee contains hundreds of biologically active compounds, such as caffeine and chlorogenic acid, that may play a role in reducing the risk of cancer. Further research is needed to fully understand the molecular mechanisms behind coffee's anticancer effects and the potential influence of confounding factors on its reported benefits.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Cristian Hernandez et al.

Summary: This study synthesized twelve hybrids of curcumin and resveratrol, with compounds 3e, 3i, 3a, 3e, and 3k showing the best cytotoxic activity against human colon adenocarcinoma cells and their metastatic derivatives. These compounds had selectivity indices higher than commonly used drugs and showed good antiproliferative activity.
