Lipids from algal biomass provide new (nonlamellar) nanovectors with high carrier potentiality for natural antioxidants

Ilaria Clemente et al.

Summary: This study examines new nanosystems built with lipids extracted from the marine microalga Nannochloropsis sp and their use as carriers for lipophilic antioxidants. Results show that cargo molecules play an active role in driving the interactions which characterize the overall structure of the aggregates.

Thymol-loaded lipid nanovectors from the marine microalga Nannochloropsis sp. as potential antibacterial agents

Felicia Menicucci et al.

Summary: The massive use of traditional pesticides poses a serious environmental problem, prompting the need for the development of natural antimicrobial agents. In this study, nanovectors composed of lipids extracted from a marine microalga were successfully loaded with thymol and demonstrated significant antibacterial effects against a plant pathogen. Further research is encouraged on the potential of this algae-derived nanoformulation as a novel drug delivery system.
