The evaluation of adding induction chemotherapy to concurrent chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma: a meta-analysis

Min Tang et al.

Summary: Induction chemotherapy followed by cisplatin-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy significantly improves survival outcomes for patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma compared to cisplatin-based CCRT alone, but is also associated with a markedly increased risk of treatment-related adverse events.

The impact of induction chemotherapy on long-term quality of life in patients with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma: Outcomes from a randomised phase 3 trial

Qi Yang et al.

Summary: This study confirmed that induction chemotherapy (IC) followed by concurrent chemo-radiotherapy (CCRT) had better long-term quality of life outcomes compared with CCRT alone in patients with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The IC followed by CCRT group showed significantly improved results in role functioning, cognitive functioning, social functioning, fatigue, pain, and constipation, while showing poorer results in senses problems.

Quality-Adjusted Life Years and Disability-Adjusted Life Years Are Better With Concurrent Chemoradiation Therapy Than Induction Chemotherapy Followed by Chemoradiation Therapy in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

Mary R. Nittala et al.

Summary: This retrospective analysis of 85 nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients found that concurrent chemoradiation therapy (chemoRT) was associated with improved quality of life compared to induction chemotherapy followed by concurrent chemoRT. Patients treated with concurrent chemoRT also had higher average DALYs saved compared to those treated with induction chemo followed by concurrent chemoRT.
