Protective effects of a small-molecule inhibitor DDQ against tau-induced toxicities in a transgenic tau mouse model of Alzheimer's disease

Murali Vijayan et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to determine the protective effects of DDQ on phosphorylated tau in Alzheimer's disease. The researchers administered DDQ to tau transgenic mice and assessed its levels in different tissues. They also measured the mRNA and protein levels of genes related to mitochondrial dynamics, biogenesis, synaptic function, and longevity. The results showed that DDQ had the greatest impact on skeletal muscle, leading to increased levels of mitochondrial fusion and biogenesis, as well as decreased levels of mitochondrial fission and phosphorylated tau.

Summary: The purpose of this study is to investigate the early cellular, molecular, morphological, and behavioral changes in humanized amyloid-beta-knock-in (hAbKI) mice. The findings suggest that amyloid-beta is sufficient to cause behavioral, mitochondrial, synaptic, and ultrastructural changes in mice.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of a partial dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) on cognitive behavior, mitophagy, autophagy, and mitochondrial and synaptic activities in transgenic Tau mice in Alzheimer's disease (AD). The findings suggest that reducing Drp1 is beneficial in symptomatic transgenic Tau mice.

Synaptic basis of Alzheimer's disease: Focus on synaptic amyloid beta, P-tau and mitochondria

Albin John et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is a progressive disease associated with synaptic dysfunction, with researchers striving to find more information on disease progression and pathogenesis. Synaptic pathology and mitochondrial oxidative damage are early events in the progression of AD, with synaptic loss and damage being key correlates of cognitive deficits in patients. As the disease advances, significant changes occur at the synapse, shedding light on the disease progression and serving as potential markers and therapeutic targets.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor citalopram ameliorates cognitive decline and protects against amyloid beta-induced mitochondrial dynamics, biogenesis, autophagy, mitophagy and synaptic toxicities in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease

Arubala P. Reddy et al.

Summary: The study investigates the protective role of citalopram against cognitive decline, impaired mitochondrial dynamics, and synaptic dysfunction in an Alzheimer's disease mouse model. Citalopram treatment improved cognitive behavior, reduced Aβ levels, and decreased mitochondrial and synaptic toxicities in the treated mice compared to the untreated mice. The findings suggest that citalopram may have a strong protective effect against injuries induced by mutant APP and Aβ in depression, anxiety, and AD patients.
