Fascia Mobility, Proprioception, and Myofascial Pain

Helene M. Langevin

Summary: Fasciae are integral to the musculoskeletal system but are often overlooked. The mobility of fasciae is crucial for musculoskeletal function and may be linked to proprioception and myofascial pain, though these relationships remain largely unexplored. Understanding these connections could lead to improved care for individuals suffering from musculoskeletal pain.

Normative Parameters of Gastrocnemius Muscle Stiffness and Associations with Patient Characteristics and Function

Larisa R. Hoffman et al.

Summary: This study aimed to establish normative parameters and variance estimates of muscle stiffness in gastrocnemius muscle, and to identify factors related to muscle stiffness including sex, age, BMI, race, exercise frequency, exercise duration, force production, and step length. Results showed that muscle stiffness significantly increased from resting to contracted state, with males having higher muscle stiffness than females. Muscle stiffness was positively correlated with plantarflexion force production.

Interrater and Intrarater Reliability of a Handheld Myotonometer in Measuring Mechanical Properties of the Neck and Orofacial Muscles

Serkan Tas et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the reliability of a handheld myotonometer in measuring the mechanical properties of the neck and orofacial muscles in asymptomatic individuals. The results demonstrated moderate to excellent interrater and intrarater reliability in measuring muscle mechanic properties.
