Relationship of Different Anthropometric Indices with Vascular Ageing in an Adult Population without Cardiovascular Disease-EVA Study

Summary: The study aimed to analyze the capacity of different anthropometric indices in predicting vascular aging and its association with cardiovascular disease in Spanish adults. The results showed that all analyzed anthropometric indices, except waist/hip ratio, were associated with vascular aging. BMI and WC were found to be the most useful indices in clinical practice for identifying individuals with vascular aging.

Longitudinal Changes in Arterial Stiffness and Heart Rate Variability in Youth-Onset Type 1 Versus Type 2 Diabetes: The SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth Study

Summary: This study compared the changes in arterial stiffness and heart rate variability (HRV) among different types of diabetes and identified the risk factors associated with the worsening of arterial stiffness and HRV. The results showed that participants with type 2 diabetes had greater arterial stiffness and more abnormalities in HRV compared to those with type 1 diabetes, and these differences worsened over time. Risk factors for the worsening of arterial stiffness and HRV in both types of diabetes included higher blood pressure, hemoglobin A(1c), waist circumference, triglycerides, and longer duration of diabetes.

Moreover, there is a clear connection between exposure to high blood pressure and the development of cognitive decline, making it necessary to standardize clinical evaluation and treatment practices for hypertensive patients, especially in older populations.

The linear association between arterial stiffness and BMI remains significant in females but not in males, indicating gender differences in the impact of obesity on cardiovascular health. Our results suggest that female gender is associated with higher susceptibility of weight-related arterial stiffening and rise in blood pressure.
