Biomarkers in asthma in the context of atopic dermatitis in young children

Millie Nguyen Basu et al.

Summary: The clinical and molecular characteristics of an AD+asthma phenotype were investigated and compared with AD, asthma, and control groups. The study found an increased number of IgE sensitizations and elevated levels of Pro-Th-2 cytokines in the AD+asthma group. NMF levels were decreased in AD. These findings suggest potential biomarkers and provide insights into the pathogenesis of AD+asthma.

Prevalence of reported food allergies in Brazilian preschoolers living in a small Brazilian city

Jose A. da S. Correia et al.

Summary: The prevalence of reported food allergies in preschoolers in Limoeiro/Pernambuco, Brazil was investigated in this study. The results showed a lower prevalence compared to previous studies. Shrimp, mollusks, and pork were the most commonly mentioned allergenic foods. Multiple food allergies were reported, even in children who had never been exposed to these possible allergens, emphasizing the importance of perception in reported food allergy studies.

Selective IgA Deficiency and Allergy: A Fresh Look to an Old Story

Bianca Laura Cinicola et al.

Summary: Selective IgA deficiency (SIgAD) is the most common primary immune deficiency characterized by IgA deficiency. SIgAD may be caused by intrinsic defects in B cell maturation and perturbations of Th cells and cytokine signals. Patients may be asymptomatic or present with symptoms such as allergy, autoimmunity, and recurrent infections. Further research is needed to determine the association between SIgAD and increased susceptibility to allergic diseases.

Summary: Selective IgA deficiency (sIgAD) is the most common primary immunodeficiency disease, often diagnosed in adults and children with mild symptoms that are difficult to identify. It is usually not diagnosed promptly and is associated with various infections, autoimmune, and allergic diseases.
