Relation of glomerular filtration to insulin resistance and related risk factors in obese children

Daniella Magen et al.

Summary: This study found that childhood obesity is associated with renal morbidity, and insulin sensitivity affects eGFR. Male sex had higher eGFR values than females, and insulin sensitivity decreased with eGFR. Adjusted eGFR was positively associated with systolic blood pressure and negatively associated with microalbuminuria.

The Association of Excess Body Weight with Risk of ESKD Is Mediated Through Insulin Resistance, Hypertension, and Hyperuricemia

Josef Fritz et al.

Summary: This study found that insulin resistance, blood pressure, and uric acid mediate the association between excess body weight and ESKD in middle-aged adults, while total cholesterol does not play a role. In addition to weight reduction, controlling metabolic risk factors may be essential in mitigating the adverse effects of BMI on kidney function.

High Blood Pressure in Children and Adolescents: Current Perspectives and Strategies to Improve Future Kidney and Cardiovascular Health

Cal H. Robinson et al.

Summary: Pediatric hypertension is becoming more prevalent and poses a significant public health threat. However, current screening, treatment, and control measures are suboptimal due to challenges in measurement, limited access to equipment and specialists, and conflicting guidelines. Despite these challenges, there are promising signs in terms of increased attention, public health initiatives, and research interest and funding in the field of pediatric hypertension.

Discordance between the triglyceride glucose index and HOMA-IR in incident albuminuria: a cohort study from China

Wei Gao et al.

Summary: The study found that in Chinese adults, there is an association between TyG index and incident albuminuria, especially in individuals with metabolic abnormalities. TyG index may be a better predictor of early stage chronic kidney disease than HOMA-IR in those with metabolic dysfunction.

BP in Young Adults with CKD and Associations with Cardiovascular Events and Decline in Kidney Function

Alexander J. Kula et al.

Summary: Among young adults with CKD, higher systolic BP is significantly associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events and CKD progression. Trials of BP management are needed to test treatment targets and strategies specifically in young adults with CKD.

Obesity, Abdominal Obesity and Chronic Kidney Disease in Young Adults: A Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study

Eun Hui Bae et al.

Summary: Obesity and abdominal obesity are associated with an increased risk of developing CKD in young adults, especially those under 30 years old. Surprisingly, young adults with diabetes who are obese or have abdominal obesity show a lower risk of CKD compared to those without obesity or abdominal obesity.

Triglyceride-glucose index and the incidence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases: a meta-analysis of cohort studies

Xiaobo Ding et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis found that a higher TyG index is independently associated with an increased incidence of ASCVDs, CAD, and stroke in individuals without ASCVDs at baseline. Subgroup analyses suggested no significant impact of age, sex, or diabetic status on this association.

The Triglyceride-Glucose Index and Obesity-Related Risk of End-Stage Kidney Disease in Austrian Adults

Josef Fritz et al.

Summary: This study found that the TyG index is associated with ESKD risk and mediates nearly half of the total association between BMI and ESKD in the general population. Public health efforts targeting weight reduction may decrease kidney sequelae of insulin resistance and ESKD burden.

Relationship Between the TyG Index and Diabetic Kidney Disease in Patients with Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus

Liangjing Lv et al.

Summary: The TyG Index is a potential predictor for DKD in T2DM patients, as higher TyG Index was associated with increased risk of microalbuminuria and decreased eGFR. Patients with high TyG Index had a greater risk of developing DKD, as shown by longitudinal analysis.
