Study protocol for WHO and UNICEF estimates of global, regional, and national preterm birth rates for 2010 to 2019

Ayesha De Costa et al.

Summary: This study aims to update global, regional, and national preterm birth estimates from 2010 to 2019 by searching national administrative data sources and conducting a systematic review of studies. The accurate measurement of preterm birth is challenging due to incomplete data and limited gestational age assessment in many countries. The updated estimates will be vital for understanding the global burden of preterm birth and guiding policies and programs, particularly in high neonatal mortality settings.

Evaluating Markers of Immune Tolerance and Angiogenesis in Maternal Blood for an Association with Risk of Pregnancy Loss

Michelle A. Wyatt et al.

Summary: Pregnancy loss affects about 20% of couples, with half of miscarriages lacking a clear cause. Early evidence suggests that maternal immune system and angiogenesis regulation play key roles in implantation success. The study recruited women in the first trimester and found that VEGF-C levels were significantly lower in women with miscarriage, while Gal-9 and VEGF-A levels were decreased in women with a prior miscarriage.
