Atomically Resolved Electrically Active Intragrain Interfaces in Perovskite Semiconductors

Songhua Cai et al.

Summary: This study resolves the atomic-scale structural information on three prototypical intragrain interfaces using scanning transmission electron microscopy and establishes models for the calculation of electronic properties. The results show that these intragrain interfaces are generally electronically benign, but their interaction with point defects can have detrimental effects. This research contributes to a better understanding of the microscopic structure-property-performance relationship in metal halide perovskites.

Lewis Base Passivation Mediates Charge Transfer at Perovskite Heterojunctions

Robert J. E. Westbrook et al.

Summary: Understanding the chemical binding between charge transport layers and CH3NH3PbI3 defect sites is crucial for improving the interfacial charge injection mechanism in perovskite solar cells. Experimental results using optical and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy show that Lewis base interactions play a key role in the binding process which correlates with the yield and lifetime of injected holes. This suggests a key design rule for the chemical structure of next-generation charge transport layers in perovskite solar cells.
