A direct and atom-economic method was developed to accomplish the amidation of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs naproxen, ibuprofen and ketoprofen with various secondary amines using commercially available DCC under mild and open-air conditions. The prodrug amides were obtained with good to moderate yields ranging between 30-90%.
