Multi-scale coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulation to investigate the thermo-mechanical behavior of shape-memory polyurethane copolymers

Sungwoo Park et al.

Summary: Shape-memory polyurethanes (SMPUs) are smart semi-crystalline polymers with heat-induced shape memory. A study using a coarse-grained (CG) molecular dynamics (MD) model found that the ratio of hard to soft segments in SMPU copolymers is crucial for shape-memory performance, and that CG modeling can capture mesoscale phenomena like polymer crystallization. Additionally, investigating the effects of hard-segment content on thermo-elastic behavior and shape-memory properties of SMPU copolymers revealed significant impacts on macroscopic shape-memory behavior.

Influence of hard segment content and soft segment length on the microphase structure and mechanical performance of polyurethane-based polymer concrete

Hao Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the structure-property relationship of PU binders with varying hard segment content and soft segment molecular weight. Results showed that increasing hard segment content or larger soft segment molecular weight enhanced hydrogen bonding and microphase separation, improving mechanical performance. Higher hard segment content led to better performance but shorter pot life. Adjusting hard segment content and soft segment length can effectively modify the engineering performance of PU-based polymer concrete.
