Electrospinning for developing flame retardant polymer materials: Current status and future perspectives

Henri Vahabi et al.

Summary: Polymer processing techniques have developed rapidly to meet diverse applications, with electrospinning being a common method for fabricating continuous fibers with special advantages. Flame retardancy is an important performance characteristic of polymer materials, but both material and fabrication aspects need to be considered in design. This review categorizes state-of-the-art features of flame-retardant polymer materials developed using electrospinning, discussing mechanical properties, advantages, and challenges of natural and synthetic polymer fibers.
