Mitigating ion migration in perovskite solar cells

Enbing Bi et al.

Summary: Intrinsic ion migration in metal halide perovskite absorber layers and interfaces severely limits the device stability of perovskite solar cells. Efforts to mitigate this issue have been made, but it remains a formidable challenge in commercializing PSCs. While degradation of PSCs caused by extrinsic factors has been studied and relieved to some extent, intrinsic ion migration remains a major obstacle to commercialization.

Electron/hole blocking layers as ionic blocking layers in perovskite solar cells

Sapir Bitton et al.

Summary: Theoretical studies have traditionally focused on ion migration within the perovskite layer, but emerging experimental evidence suggests ions can also migrate into blocking layers, impacting device degradation. Simulation results show good agreement with experimental data, indicating ion accumulation at the electrode interface as a key factor in device dynamics. Additionally, migration into blocking layers is found to significantly influence the device energy level diagram and can potentially alter the perovskites into p or n type solar cells.
