High-sensitivity mapping of magnetic induction fields with nanometer-scale resolution: comparison of off-axis electron holography and pixelated differential phase contrast

Victor Boureau et al.

Summary: This study compares two TEM techniques for highly spatially resolved quantitative measurements of magnetic induction fields, showing that the pixelated STEM approach provides better sensitivity at the expense of spatial resolution. The results indicate that off-axis electron holography and pixelated differential phase contrast are effective methods for measuring magnetic induction in nanowires.

Unraveling the shell growth pathways of Pd-Pt core-shell nanocubes at atomic level by in situ liquid cell electron microscopy

Walid Dachraoui et al.

Summary: The study investigates the growth mechanisms of Pt shells on Pd nanocubes at the atomic level using graphene-based liquid cell STEM technology. Pd-Pt core-shell NPs are formed by two distinct mechanisms: formation of ultra-thin skin at low Pt atom concentration and formation of inhomogeneous islands and thick shells at higher Pt atom concentration.

Atomic-Resolution Cryogenic Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy for Quantum Materials

Elisabeth Bianco et al.

Summary: The study of quantum materials has attracted attention from various fields, including solid-state chemistry, materials science, and condensed-matter physics, leading to research on quantum phase transitions such as superconducting, ferroic, and charge-order transitions. Cryo-STEM has enabled imaging of atomic-scale features and functional atomic displacements in materials, and has been used to study charge-ordered systems. By probing lattice degrees of freedom, nanoscale heterogeneities, and topological defects, cryo-STEM provides insights into the microscopic underpinnings of quantum phases and offers new opportunities for understanding complex material behaviors.

The differential phase contrast uncertainty relation: Connection between electron dose and field resolution

Simon Poellath et al.

Summary: Differential phase contrast microscopy is a STEM imaging technique used for measuring magnetic and electric fields at mesoscopic and nanoscopic dimensions. This paper emphasizes the importance of electron dose per pixel in determining the precision and resolution of field measurements. It also discusses the impact of Heisenberg's uncertainty principle on the achievable field resolution in differential phase contrast microscopy.
