Formation mechanism of surface oxide layer of grain-oriented silicon steel

Jia-long Qiao et al.

Summary: The surface oxide layer of grain-oriented electrical steels, mainly composed of SiO2, FeO, and Fe2SiO4 with a thickness of approximately 2.3 μm, was found to be formed with the diffusion of oxygen as a limiting factor. During high temperature annealing, MgO reacts mainly with SiO2 and Fe2SiO4 to form Mg2SiO4, leading to the formation of a glass film with an average thickness of 4.87 μm.

Effect of Solute Ce on Mechanical Properties and Electronic Structure of γ-Fe: Insights from a First-principles Study

Xiangjun Liu et al.

Summary: This study used first-principles calculations to investigate the effects of common elements in steel on the solid solution of rare earth Ce in steel, and analyzed the effects of Ce doping on the mechanical properties and electronic structure of the system. The results showed that different elements have various impacts on Ce solubility, Ce doping reduces system rigidity and hardness while improving toughness and machinability, with Si having the most significant effect on Ce solubility.

Effect of Microalloyed Elements M (M = Ce, Ti, V, and Nb) on Mechanical Properties and Electronic Structures of γ-Fe: Insights from a First-Principles Study

Xiangjun Liu et al.

Summary: The study used first-principles calculations to investigate the solid solution behavior of microalloyed elements M in steel, analyzing their effects on the mechanical properties and electronic structures of the doped systems. Results indicate that Ce, Ti, V, and Nb can be solubilized in gamma-Fe, with M doping leading to reduced incompressibility and rigidity but improved toughness and machinability. The weaker metallic bond strength and higher electron cloud density in the doped system are identified as the main reasons for the observed changes in mechanical properties.
