Dominant Processes for Dependence of Boreal Summer Intraseasonal Oscillation on El Nino Phases

Doo Young Lee et al.

Summary: During El Nino developing summers, BSISO-related convections are stronger and more organized with northward propagation compared to decaying summers. The easterly vertical shear in the developing phase remarkably increases due to enhanced upper-level easterly anomaly, leading to stronger air-sea interaction and amplifying northward propagation.

Intraseasonal variability of the surface zonal current in the equatorial Indian Ocean: Seasonal differences and causes

Qingwen Zhong et al.

Summary: Using observations and numerical simulations, this study examines the intraseasonal variability of the surface zonal current over the equatorial Indian Ocean. The study finds that atmospheric intraseasonal oscillations are the main driver of u ISV in the eastern basin, while both atmospheric ISOs and oceanic internal instabilities contribute to u ISV in the western basin. The study also highlights the seasonal differences, with eastern u ISV being stronger in boreal summer compared to boreal winter.

Intraseasonal Variability of Sea Level in the Western North Pacific

Haolang Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the response of sea level in the Western North Pacific to atmospheric Intraseasonal Oscillation modes. The Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) and Boreal Summer Intraseasonal Oscillation (BSISO) have significant effects on sea level components in winter and summer, modulating the probability of extreme sea level events. The study highlights the importance of understanding intraseasonal variations of sea level for marine disaster prevention and mitigation.
