Bone density and strength from thoracic and lumbar CT scans both predict incident vertebral fractures independently of fracture location

F. Johannesdottir et al.

Summary: In this population-based study, CT-based bone density and strength measurements from the thoracic spine were found to predict incident vertebral fracture, similarly to measurements from the lumbar spine. Both thoracic and lumbar bone measurements showed similar sensitivity and specificity in predicting incident vertebral fracture.

Opportunistic Screening Using Low-Dose CT and the Prevalence of Osteoporosis in China: A Nationwide, Multicenter Study

Xiaoguang Cheng et al.

Summary: This study explored the feasibility of opportunistic screening for osteoporosis using LDCT in a large population cohort of Chinese men and women. The prevalence of osteoporosis in Chinese population over 50 years old was found to be 29.0% for women and 13.5% for men, with geographical and age-related variations observed. Further cohort studies are needed to evaluate the clinical utility of such screening in terms of fracture prevention and national health economic analyses.
