Spontaneous Thyroid Hemorrhage Caused by Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis: A Case Report and Literature Review

Jingying Zhang et al.

Summary: This case report presents a rare case of spontaneous thyroid hemorrhage due to Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) progression. The patient achieved clinical stability after systemic chemotherapy but developed sudden neck swelling and dyspnea seven years later. Prompt diagnosis and treatment with partial thyroidectomy led to a successful recovery. Long-term active surveillance for multi-system LCH patients with thyroid involvement is recommended to monitor for potential complications like spontaneous thyroid hemorrhage. Further studies are needed to establish guidelines for the treatment of thyroid LCH.
