Value of Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound for Evaluation of Cervical Lymph Node Metastasis in Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma

Fengkai Fang et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in distinguishing between benign and malignant cervical lymph nodes (LNs) in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). The results showed that preoperative CEUS characteristics can serve as a useful tool in identifying malignant cervical LNs from benign ones.

Contrast-enhanced ultrasound: a valuable modality for extracapsular extension assessment in papillary thyroid cancer

Yan Zhang et al.

Summary: CEUS is a more valuable and non-invasive imaging modality compared to conventional US in detecting extracapsular extension in papillary thyroid carcinoma. Single capsular invasion was a poor predictor of cervical lymph node metastasis, while extracapsular extension assessments were clinically significant for predicting cervical lymph node metastasis. Among the thyroid papillary carcinoma nodules with differential enhancement, hyper-enhanced nodules had the highest incidence of single capsule invasion (41.9%), while hypo-enhanced ones had a higher incidence of ECE (47.4%).

Summary: LCEUS showed higher diagnostic value for CLNM from PTC compared to IVCEUS and US, while the combination of LCEUS and IVCEUS had the highest diagnostic value for CLNM.

Value of Combining Clinical Factors, Conventional Ultrasound, and Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound Features in Preoperative Prediction of Central Lymph Node Metastases of Different Sized Papillary Thyroid Carcinomas

Yanfang Wang et al.

Summary: Combining preoperative clinical characteristics, conventional ultrasound, and CEUS showed better performance in predicting CLNM compared to using CEUS or conventional ultrasound alone. Different tumor sizes had different independent risk factors for CLNM.

Sonographic Characteristics of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma With Coexistent Hashimoto's Thyroiditis in the Preoperative Prediction of Central Lymph Node Metastasis

Sijie Chen et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the sonographic characteristics of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) and found that factors like patient age, nodule size, shape, calcification, and vascularity were associated with central lymph node metastasis (CLNM). Preoperative ultrasound characteristics can help predict CLNM in PTCs with coexistent HT.

Unnecessity of Routine Dissection of Right Central Lymph Nodes in cN0 Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma Located at the Left Thyroid Lobe

Songtao Zhang et al.

Summary: In cN0 papillary thyroid carcinoma located at the left lobe, LN-prRLN metastasis was uncommon. LN-prRLN dissection is not routinely required, but should be performed if the tumor size is >40.0 mm and macroscopic maximal extrathyroidal extension is present.
