Perturbation of the gut microbiome by Prevotella spp. enhances host susceptibility to mucosal inflammation

Aida Iljazovic et al.

Summary: The colonization of the intestinal microbiota with Prevotella genus has been linked to exacerbation of intestinal inflammation in mice. This study found that Prevotella intestinalis alters the composition and function of the ecosystem, leading to a reduction in short-chain fatty acids, specifically acetate, and a decrease in IL-18 levels, which exacerbates intestinal inflammation. Supplementation of IL-18 can alleviate the inflammation associated with Prevotella colonization.

Thymic T-Cell Production Is Associated With Changes in the Gut Microbiota in Young Chicks

Jiaheng Cheng et al.

Summary: Studies have shown the association between gut microbiota and the development of thymic T cells in young chickens. Early antibiotic treatment reduces gut microbiota diversity, leading to a decrease in thymic T cells. Interventions that modify gut microbiota in early life may accelerate humoral immunity maturation and provide anti-inflammatory effects against pathogens.

CD3G or CD3D Knockdown in Mature, but Not Immature, T Lymphocytes Similarly Cripples the Human TCRαβ Complex

Beatriz Garcillan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the different roles of the invariant chains CD3 gamma and CD3 delta in the assembly of the human αβ T-cell receptor (TCR) and found that deficiencies in CD3 gamma had a greater impact. Deficiencies in CD3 gamma result in higher levels of surface TCR in humans, while deficiencies in CD3 delta lead to a more stable but insufficiently expressed TCR ensemble, retention in the endoplasmic reticulum, and lack of surface expression.

Environmentally enriched housing conditions affect pig welfare, immune system and gut microbiota in early life

Caifang Wen et al.

Summary: Comparing conventional housing with enriched housing on pigs, it was found that enriched housing not only benefits pig welfare but also promotes the development of the immune system and establishment of gut microbiota in early life, potentially increasing productivity and reducing antibiotic use.
