Integrated biomarker responses in oysters Crassostrea gasar as an approach for assessing aquatic pollution of a Brazilian estuary

Clarissa P. Ferreira et al.

Summary: The study revealed that anthropogenic activities have significant impacts on the Laguna Estuarine System (LES) in southern Brazil, leading to changes in metal and organic contaminant concentrations, which in turn result in downregulation of biotransformation gene expression and decreased antioxidant enzyme activity. The findings highlight the detrimental effects of increasing pollutant loads on the aquatic ecosystem.
