Comparison of Reanalysis and Observational Precipitation Datasets Including ERA5 and WFDE5

Summary: Tree water use and whole-tree canopy conductance are coordinated with water-relations traits rather than with climate, as shown in the study using a global sap flow database. Species with efficient xylem transport have higher canopy conductance but also higher sensitivity to vapor pressure deficit. The results highlight the complexity of defining a single, whole-plant resource use spectrum.
