Efficacy outcomes and safety measures of intravenous tirofiban or eptifibatide for patients with acute ischemic stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective studies

Jingting Liu et al.

Summary: In patients with acute ischemic stroke, the treatment with tirofiban or eptifibatide did not have a significant impact on favorable outcomes or functional outcomes, but may increase mortality, possibly due to the risk of fatal ICH. Thrombolysis/thrombectomy did not influence any of the outcomes, and adding tirofiban or eptifibatide to thrombolysis/thrombectomy was not significantly associated with better outcomes, but might increase mortality.

Effects of the Intermittent Theta Burst Stimulation of the Cerebellar Vermis on Balance Recovery After Stroke: A Study Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

Lin Wang et al.

Summary: This study aims to explore the efficacy of intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) of the cerebellar vermis for the treatment of balance function in stroke patients. The study will assess clinical outcomes and acquire pre- and post-iTBS resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data to analyze the effect of stimulation on brain connectivity.

Audiovestibular Disorders after COVID-19 Vaccine: Is There an Association?

Davide Pisani et al.

Summary: The SARS-CoV-2 vaccination campaign is a significant milestone in modern medicine, accelerating vaccine development and commercialization. Adverse events related to audiovestibular symptoms following immunization are rare, and scientific research should focus on accurate data collection for future studies. Prompt evaluation and standard treatment are recommended for sudden sensorineural hearing loss, tinnitus, dizziness, and vertigo, which are unrelated to vaccination. The risk rates for these conditions have not increased with COVID-19 vaccinations, supporting the importance of the vaccination campaign without hesitation.

Tinnitus and equilibrium disorders in COVID-19 patients: preliminary results

Pasquale Viola et al.

Summary: This multicentric study conducted in 15 Italian hospitals aimed to investigate the prevalence of subjective tinnitus and dizziness in COVID-19 patients using an online 10-item close-ended questionnaire. Results showed that 18.4% of patients reported equilibrium disorders, while 23.2% reported tinnitus, indicating that otoneurological symptoms may affect COVID-19 patients. More studies are needed to further explore the prevalence and mechanisms of these symptoms.

Systematic Review and Meta-analysis: Effectiveness of Corticosteroids in Treating Adults With Acute Vestibular Neuritis

Kai-Jing Leong et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of corticosteroids in treating acute vestibular neuritis in adults. Eight studies were reviewed, with six included in the meta-analysis. The results showed no significant differences in complete recovery rates between corticosteroid and placebo groups at 1, 6, and 12 months. While there was better caloric recovery in the corticosteroid group at 1 month, overall effects did not differ across 12 months. Subjective recovery also did not vary between groups. Five studies reported adverse effects from corticosteroids, leading to the conclusion that there is insufficient evidence to support their use in managing acute vestibular neuritis.

Nutraceuticals for Peripheral Vestibular Pathology: Properties, Usefulness, Future Perspectives and Medico-Legal Aspects

Giuseppe Chiarella et al.

Summary: Vestibular disorders can have a significant impact on patients' balance and quality of life, with dizziness and vertigo affecting daily activities and relationships. Nutraceuticals present an interesting therapeutic option for treatment, although their effectiveness may lack solid scientific evidence. The integration of conventional drugs and nutraceuticals poses challenges due to their pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, highlighting the need for further research to elevate the status of nutraceuticals in the medical field.

Efficacy and Pharmacological Appropriateness of Cinnarizine and Dimenhydrinate in the Treatment of Vertigo and Related Symptoms

Fulvio Plescia et al.

Summary: Vertigo is not a disease but a symptom of various syndromes and disorders that affect balance function. A fixed combination of cinnarizine and dimenhydrinate has been shown to effectively improve vertigo-related symptoms, with possible gender-specific effects. Further research is needed to explore the potential gender differences in pharmacological effects.

Summary: Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD) is a vestibular disorder characterized by chronic dizziness, potentially related to decreased local activity and functional connectivity in multimodal vestibular cortical areas. Additionally, patients with PPPD exhibit hypervigilant postural control and visual dependence.
