Usefulness of Cervical Vestibular-Evoked Myogenic Potentials for Diagnosing Patients With Superior Canal Dehiscence Syndrome: A Meta-Analysis

Do Hyun Kim et al.

Summary: This study compared the diagnostic accuracy of cervical vestibular-evoked myogenic potential (cVEMP) for detecting superior canal dehiscence (SCD) syndrome to that of computed tomography (CT) and surgical findings. The results showed that cVEMP is a reliable adjunctive tool for the clinical diagnosis of SCD, with a threshold value of 75 demonstrating good diagnostic accuracy.

Using Functional Outcomes to Predict Vestibular Loss in Children

Kristen L. Janky et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between severity of vestibular loss and functional performance, identify the best functional performance outcomes that predict vestibular loss, and determine the contribution of vestibular rate sensors in different functional measures. The study found that functional performance declines as vestibular loss severity worsens. The single leg stance test is fast and efficient for predicting vestibular loss in school age children. Average horizontal canal vHIT is the best predictor of functional performance.

Vestibular Disorders in the Pediatric Age: Retrospective Analysis and Review of the Literature

Antonio Fontes Lima et al.

Summary: Vestibular dysfunction in pediatric patients has various causes, including vestibular migraine and benign paroxysmal vertigo of childhood, with underdiagnosis being a concern. Collaboration between pediatricians, neurologists, physiatrists, family doctors, and otorhinolaryngologists is essential in creating referral and evaluation protocols for pediatric patients.

Vestibular disorders in children: A retrospective analysis of vestibular function test findings

Ozlem Gedik-Soyuyuce et al.

Summary: This study investigated the most common vestibular disorders in children, with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) and vestibular migraine (VM) being the predominant diagnoses. Clinicians should have a good understanding of the prevalence, signs, and symptoms of these disorders in order to provide appropriate diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. Vestibular function testing tailored to a child's age can lead to better differential diagnosis and more effective medical interventions.

Summary: The vertebrate inner ear is a crucial sensory organ responsible for perceiving sound and body motion. Recent research has started to uncover the complex developmental program and inner ear apparatuses related to vestibular function. These studies have identified genes involved in inner ear development and model syndromes, providing potential treatments for individuals with vestibular disorders.
