Type I Interferons in Autoimmunity

Ruth Fernandez-Ruiz et al.

Summary: Dysregulated IFN-1 responses are important in the development of various autoimmune diseases. Enhanced IFN-1 signaling is seen in patients with lupus, systemic sclerosis, Sjogren's syndrome, and dermatomyositis. Excess IFN-1 is associated with disease severity and autoantibodies, and may be used to predict response to new therapies targeting IFN-1 pathways. This review provides an overview of IFN-1 signaling pathway and immune functions in both health and disease, as well as current therapeutic strategies targeting the IFN-1 system.

Docosahexanoic acid signals through the Nrf2-Nqo1 pathway to maintain redox balance and promote neurite outgrowth

Jennifer Drolet et al.

Summary: Evidence suggests that n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids can activate the Nrf2 antioxidant pathway, promoting neuronal differentiation and protecting against agrochemical-induced neuritic retraction. DHA-mediated activation of Nrf2 leads to neurite outgrowth and protection, mainly through induction of the Nrf2-target gene NQO1.

Transcriptomic Analysis of Rat Macrophages

Clare Pridans et al.

Summary: This study established the methodology for the production of rat ESC-derived macrophages and compared their gene expression profiles with macrophages from different sources, revealing some similarities with mouse macrophages. Unlike mice, rat macrophages were found to express the CSF1R ligand, colony stimulating factor 1 (CSF1).

Membrane cholesterol regulates endocytosis and trafficking of the serotonin1A receptor: Insights from acute cholesterol depletion

G. Aditya Kumar et al.

Summary: The role of membrane cholesterol in regulating GPCR endocytosis is explored in this study, showing how acute cholesterol depletion affects the internalization and intracellular trafficking of the serotonin1A receptor. Cholesterol depletion leads to altered endocytic pathway and lysosomal degradation of the receptor, indicating a novel cholesterol-dependent role in GPCR trafficking.

Metallothionein 1: A New Spotlight on Inflammatory Diseases

Hanying Dai et al.

Summary: MT1, an essential stress protein, plays a crucial role in maintaining physiological balance and regulating immune homeostasis. While its immunological involvement in central nervous system disorders and cancer has been extensively studied, recent evidence suggests that MT1 also has a broader impact on inflammatory diseases and immune responses. Researchers will summarize the biological features of MT1, its regulators, immunoregulatory functions on immune cells, and signaling pathways.

Dietary Supplementation With Eicosapentaenoic Acid Inhibits Plasma Cell Differentiation and Attenuates Lupus Autoimmunity

Azusa Kobayashi et al.

Summary: Accumulating evidence suggests that cholesterol accumulation in leukocytes is causally associated with autoimmune diseases, but the mechanism by which fatty acid composition affects autoimmune responses remains unclear. Dietary supplementation of EPA has been found to ameliorate lupus manifestations by remodeling B cell membranes, preventing differentiation into autoantibody-producing plasma cells. These results highlight a potential therapeutic benefit of EPA supplementation for lupus.
