Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

3,3′-Diindolylmethane Promotes Gastric Cancer Progression via β-TrCP-Mediated NF-κB Activation in Gastric Cancer-Derived MSCs

Hui Shi et al.

Summary: The study found that the anti-cancer drug DIM at therapeutic concentrations upregulated the expression of tumor-related factors in GC-MSCs and promoted the proliferation, invasion, and migration of gastric cancer cells, leading to tumor growth. This mechanism provides a new insight into anti-cancer drug resistance and suggests the need to adjust the chemotherapy regimen to minimize the side effects of drugs on targeted TME cells.

Pathogenic ubiquitination of GSDMB inhibits NK cell bactericidal functions

Justin M. Hansen et al.

Summary: GSDMB is targeted and destroyed by the IpaH7.8 effector protein secreted by Shigella flexneri, protecting the bacterium from natural killer cells. Unlike other gasdermin family members, GSDMB exhibits direct microbiocidal activity by recognizing phospholipids found on Gram-negative bacterial membranes.

Pan-Cancer Analysis of PARP1 Alterations as Biomarkers in the Prediction of Immunotherapeutic Effects and the Association of Its Expression Levels and Immunotherapy Signatures

Xinke Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that PARP1 alterations were associated with higher tumor mutation burden in various tumors and better overall survival in advanced tumors treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors. The altered PARP1 group showed higher immune infiltrates and expression of immune checkpoint genes across most tumors. Additionally, high PARP1 expression was positively correlated with immune cell infiltration, immune checkpoint gene expression, number of neoantigens, tumor mutation burden, and microsatellite instability event in several tumors.

Gankyrin as Potential Biomarker for Colorectal Cancer With Occult Liver Metastases

Chengxing Wang et al.

Summary: Elevated Gankyrin expression was confirmed in CRC patients, which was positively correlated with disease progression and liver metastasis, leading to worse prognosis. Therefore, Gankyrin may serve as a potential biomarker for early diagnosis of CRC with occult liver metastasis.
