Modeling the abrasive wear behavior of in-situ synthesized magnesium RZ5/TiB2 metal matrix composites

Arabinda Meher et al.

Summary: In this study, statistical analysis on the tribological behavior of RZ5/TiB2 magnesium-based metal matrix composites was carried out using Taguchi design and analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique. The study found that sliding distance and wt.% TiB2 were the most significant factors affecting weight loss and coefficient of friction. The regression equation formulated using ANOVA technique was validated through a comprehensive series of abrasive wear tests, with a percentage deviation of regression modeling within the range of +/- 10%.

Experimental and statistical investigation of the effects of MQL, dry and wet machining on machinability and sustainability in turning of AISI 4140 steel

Huseyin Gurbuz et al.

Summary: The study highlights the advantages of Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) in metal cutting, showing significant reductions in cutting tool wear, main cutting force, and surface roughness compared to dry and wet cutting. Analysis using Taguchi method, linear and quadratic equations reveals the importance of feed rate on cutting parameters. Additionally, MQL machining is found to be superior in terms of sustainability and cleaner production.

Abrasive Wear Behaviour of TiB2 Reinforced In-Situ Synthesized Magnesium RZ5 Alloy based Metal Matrix Composites

Arabinda Meher et al.

Summary: The abrasive wear behavior of TiB2 reinforced in-situ magnesium RZ5 alloy-based metal matrix composites was studied, showing that an increase in applied load and sliding distance results in higher wear loss. The coefficient of friction decreases with higher loads but increases with longer sliding distances.

The Tribological Behavior of an In-Situ Processed Magnesium Alloy-Based Metal Matrix Composite

Arabinda Meher et al.

Summary: The wear resistance of magnesium alloy can be significantly improved by adding TiB2 reinforcement to the matrix, but as the load and sliding distance increase, both wear loss and coefficient of friction will also increase.
