Evaluation of Thermal Properties of Composites Prepared from Pistachio Shell Particles Treated Chemically and Polypropylene

Beatriz Adriana Salazar-Cruz et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to prepare polypropylene matrix composites filled with chemically treated pistachio shell particles and evaluate their thermal properties. The results showed that the treatment of pistachio shell particles improved the thermal stability of the composites and increased their crystallinity when added in appropriate concentrations.

Characterisation of Hemp Fibres Reinforced Composites Using Thermoplastic Polymers as Matrices

Lucia Stelea et al.

Summary: Composite materials with hemp fibers as reinforcing agents and different polymeric matrices were prepared by needle punching and heat pressing. The properties of the composites were analyzed with respect to the hemp/matrix ratio and the nature of the matrix. The results showed that the mechanical properties of the composites were affected by both the hemp/matrix ratio and the nature of the matrix, and the thermal stability of the composites decreased as the amount of hemp increased.

Biocomposites: A review of materials and perception

T. Manu et al.

Summary: With the increasing global attention on sustainability, biocomposites have been considered as a solution, but their tangible outcomes in terms of impactful raw materials are limited. Consumer confusion caused by a wide range of bio-degradation standards and inconsistent use of 'eco' terms contribute to the lack of widespread acceptance for biocomposites. To improve their desirability and distinguishability, modifying the physical characteristics and perceptual attributes associated with biocomposites is proposed.

A Review on Natural Fiber Bio-Composites, Surface Modifications and Applications

Mohammed Zwawi

Summary: The focus on eco-friendly bio-composites has increased due to environmental concerns and global warming. Natural fibers are abundant, low-cost to harvest, and possess adequate mechanical properties, making them a viable alternative to synthetic fibers. Bio-composites are degradable, renewable, non-toxic, and have comparable properties to synthetic fiber composites, leading to their widespread use in industries such as construction, automotive, packaging, medicine, and cosmetics.

Determination of hemicellulose, cellulose, holocellulose and lignin content using FTIR in Calycophyllum spruceanum (Benth.) K. Schum. and Guazuma crinita Lam.

Rosario Javier-Astete et al.

Summary: This study found significant differences in cellulose, hemicellulose, holocellulose, and lignin content between the apical and basal stem of juvenile Capirona and Bolaina trees. By using FTIR spectra and PLS models, efficient predictions of wood chemical composition were achieved, demonstrating the reliability of this method for determining the chemical composition of these trees.

Crystallization Behaviors of Composites Comprising Biodegradable Polyester and Functional Nucleation Agent

Li-Ting Lee et al.

Summary: The study found that hexagonal boron nitride had a significant nucleation effect on the crystallization behaviors of poly(ethylene succinate), resulting in shorter crystallization time, increased crystallization rate, and accelerated non-isothermal crystallization kinetics. The well-dispersed h-BN in the polymer matrix led to the formation of more and smaller spherulites in the composites. XRD patterns showed that the crystalline structure of the polymer was not obviously changed by the presence of h-BN.
