Towards personalised dosimetry in patients with liver malignancy treated with 90Y-SIRT using in vivo-driven radiobiological parameters

Yaser H. Gholami et al.

Summary: The study investigates the radiobiological parameters for liver tumours in radiation-based therapies. It highlights the importance of time factors in evaluating the response to [Y-90]SIR-Spheres treatment for liver malignancy. Different types of tumours show different responses to this treatment.

Personalised versus standard dosimetry approach of selective internal radiation therapy in patients with locally advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (DOSISPHERE-01): a randomised, multicentre, open-label phase 2 trial

Etienne Garin et al.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of personalized versus standard dosimetry in selective internal radiation therapy for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, showing that personalized dosimetry significantly improved the objective response rate. The results suggest that personalized dosimetry may enhance outcomes in clinical practice and should be considered for future trials.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

3D printing 18F radioactive phantoms for PET imaging

Daniel Gillett et al.

Summary: 3D-printed phantoms have addressed the issue of not replicating human anatomy found in traditional phantoms, by utilizing resin to create human-like phantoms filled with radioactive material. Creating radioactive resin emulsion is a simple and effective way to produce accurate and intricate phantoms without inactive walls.

Individualised dosimetry and safety of SIRT for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

Kathy P. Willowson et al.

Summary: ICC lesions exhibit a dose-response trend similar to mCRC, however, full metabolic response is rare despite high lesion doses. The coefficient of variation of lesion dose may significantly impact response, with EUD correlating more closely with metabolic response compared to D-avg. SIRT in primary liver malignancy is safe in terms of not inducing clinically significant decline in liver function, and low baseline uptake rate is not predictive of a reduction in function post-SIRT.
