Application of Microgel as a Sorbent for Bisphenol Analysis in Liquid Food Samples

Anna Kubiak et al.

Summary: This study developed a new type of microgel for the removal of bisphenols from aqueous medium. By using microgel solid-phase extraction procedure, the detection limits of bisphenols in liquid food samples can be significantly reduced, and good recoveries and precision can be achieved with a small amount of microgel.

Screening of Contaminants of Emerging Concern in Surface Water and Wastewater Effluents, Assisted by the Persistency-Mobility-Toxicity Criteria

Rosa Montes et al.

Summary: Contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) are a group of compounds with diverse origins that have recently garnered increasing environmental attention. The NOR-Water project aimed to identify the main CECs and their sources in the water environment of the Northern Portugal-Galicia transnational region. Through the use of liquid chromatography coupled to high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS), a total of 343 chemicals were tentatively identified in the analyzed samples, with 153 classified as persistent, mobile, and toxic (PMT) and 23 as very persistent and very mobile (vMvP).

3D-Printed Scaffolds from Alginate/Methyl Cellulose/Trimethyl Chitosan/Silicate Glasses for Bone Tissue Engineering

Maria Fermani et al.

Summary: Alginate-based hydrogel inks are commonly used in 3D printing due to their biocompatibility, biodegradability, and cell adhesion. In this study, the addition of trimethyl chitosan (TMC) was found to improve the stability of scaffolds compared to constructs without TMC. Silicate glasses were shown to enhance collagen secretion by pre-osteoblasts, indicating their potential for bone tissue engineering.
