A Model for Energy Consumption of Main Cutting Force of High Energy Efficiency Milling Cutter under Vibration

Bin Jiang et al.

Summary: Understanding the influence of the main cutting force energy consumption is crucial for predicting and controlling energy and machining efficiency. Current models lack variables related to milling vibration and cutter teeth errors. This study investigated the instantaneous cutting boundary and energy consumption distribution of the main cutting force, and developed models for both the cutter tooth and milling cutter. The formation of energy consumption of a high energy efficiency milling cutter was examined. A method for identifying the time-frequency characteristics of the main cutting force energy consumption under vibration was proposed and verified through experiments.

Identification of Friction Behavior Variation in the Minor Flank of Square Shoulder Milling Cutters under Vibration

Bin Jiang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the friction characteristics of the square shoulder milling cutter tooth flank. By developing a friction velocity model based on the relative motion relationship between the cutter tooth flank and the workpiece transition surface, a new method for identifying the dynamic characteristics of flank friction is proposed.

Sustainable milling of Ti-6Al-4V: A trade-off between energy efficiency, carbon emissions and machining characteristics under MQL and cryogenic environment

Muhammad Jamil et al.

Summary: The study verified the effectiveness of CO2-snow in milling Ti-6Al-4V, showing it outperformed cryogenic-LN2, MQL, and dry cutting conditions in terms of sustainability measures and machining characteristics. With varying end-mill geometries and cutting conditions, CO2-snow and the up-milling of 42 degrees helix angle cutter performed the best.

High-Performance Face Milling of 42CrMo4 Steel: Influence of Entering Angle on the Measured Surface Roughness, Cutting Force and Vibration Amplitude

Marcin Plodzien et al.

Summary: High feed Milling is a new method that allows for high feed rates and increased machining efficiency by using face cutters with small entering angles. Experimental tests showed that while it can double cutting volume compared to traditional face cutters, it also leads to increased cutting forces, higher surface roughness, and vibration amplitudes.

New mechanistic cutting force model for milling additive manufactured Inconel 718 considering effects of tool wear evolution and actual tool geometry

Edouard Ducroux et al.

Summary: In this study, the machinability of Inconel 718 obtained by additive manufacturing was compared to that from wrought bar. It was found that additive manufactured Inconel 718 has better machinability, and considering tool wear and tool geometry evolution can improve the precision of the model.
