Seismic Advances in Process Geomorphology

Kristen L. Cook et al.

Summary: The study of geomorphic processes and their impacts is a fundamental aspect of geomorphology. Seismic waves generated by various geomorphic processes can be measured using standard seismic instruments. In recent years, the use of seismic signals for understanding surface processes has grown significantly, leading to the emergence of environmental seismology. The application of seismic methods has the potential to advance our understanding of geomorphic events, processes, and monitoring.

Facies prediction with Bayesian inference: Application of supervised and semisupervised deep learning

Sagar Singh et al.

Summary: Accurate delineation of geologic facies and determination of live fluids are crucial for reservoir characterization during petroleum exploration. Manual facies classification and fluid identification are subjective and time-consuming; therefore, automation is desired. This paper presents supervised and semisupervised Bayesian deep-learning methodologies for seismic facies analysis, providing more consistent and meaningful information compared to deterministic approaches.

Assessment of continental margin clinoform systems in the Sorvestsnaget Basin, western Barents Sea: from clinoform parameters towards paleo-water depth

Dicky Harishidayat et al.

Summary: 2D seismic reflection data from the western Barents Sea are used to map and date the Plio-Pleistocene shelf edge clinoforms. Different methods are used to estimate the water depths during their deposition, and a new quantitative PWD reconstruction approach is suggested. The results reveal discrepancies between the different estimation methods, which can be attributed to the complex interplay between thermo-tectonic driven subsidence and climate driven sediment supply changes.

World-wide InSAR sensitivity index for landslide deformation tracking

A. L. van Natijne et al.

Summary: Landslides are major geohazards in hilly and mountainous areas. In-situ inspection of downslope motion is costly and sometimes dangerous. Remote sensing using Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) is a valuable method for systematically detecting and characterizing landslides on a large scale. This study presents a generic approach to assess the potential of InSAR-based deformation tracking, providing a standardized and automated method applicable to any slope. The researchers demonstrate that deformation can be detected on at least 91% of global landslide-prone slopes and provide a Google Earth Engine tool for assessing the availability of potential coherent scatterers.
