Design Optimization and Comparison of Cylindrical Electromagnetic Vibration Energy Harvesters

Tra Nguyen Phan et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the performance of four different electromagnetic vibration energy harvesters and determines that the harvester with two opposing magnets performs the best, while the Halbach array with three magnets and one coil configuration provides the highest mass power density. The study also reveals the limitations of using the electromagnetic coupling coefficient as a metric for harvester optimization when the goal is to maximize output power.

Effect of Nonlinear Electromechanical Coupling in Magnetic Levitation Energy Harvester

Krzysztof Kecik et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the possibility of converting vibrations to electricity and proposes a numerical and experimental study of a magnetic levitation harvester. The results indicate that the nonlinear electromechanical coupling model is more suitable for higher oscillations of the magnet, and recovered energy can be controlled by simple configuration of the magnet coil position.

A New Method to Perform Direct Efficiency Measurement and Power Flow Analysis in Vibration Energy Harvesters

Jan Kunz et al.

Summary: Efficiency of piezo energy harvesters (PEHs) was measured using a new measurement system that can directly establish efficiency for different vibration parameters without the need for PEH parameters. The standard concept yielded higher values, especially in PVDFs, due to low device stiffness causing high displacement and reduced mechanical power. Main sources of loss were identified as damping from surrounding air and internal/interlayer friction causing thermal losses.
