Ray Tracing and Measurement based Evaluation of a UHF RFID Ranging System

Stefan Hechenberger et al.

Summary: This paper presents a ray tracing based channel simulation method for evaluating ultra-high-frequency radio-frequency identification ranging methods. A statistical model is used to account for the diffuse multipath of indoor channels in the extended ray tracer. The range estimation is implemented using a matched filter and a maximum likelihood estimator, which takes advantage of multiple-input-multiple-output information. The estimators are evaluated using both simulated channel models and data from a measurement campaign, and the results show a significant agreement between the simulations and measurements. This nominates the presented channel simulation as an efficient method for evaluating indoor localization systems.

Chipless RFID Tags Placement Optimization as Infrastructure for Maximal Localization Coverage

Mohammed El-Absi et al.

Summary: This paper presents indoor localization based on asynchronous and chipless RFID infrastructure. The effective deployment and placement of chipless tags within the indoor environment are discussed, along with the formulation of the tag placement problem as a binary integer programming for achieving 3D k-coverage with the minimum number of tags. Performance evaluation shows that the proposed algorithms achieve desirable performance in promoting 3D k-coverage.
