Robust Spin Relaxometry with Fast Adaptive Bayesian Estimation

Michael Caouette-Mansour et al.

Summary: Spin relaxometry with nitrogen-vacancy (N-V) centers in diamond is a versatile probe for condensed-matter and biological systems, offering a spectrally selective, atomically localized, and calibrated measurement of microwave-frequency magnetic noise. Adaptive Bayesian estimation and a four signal measurement protocol are proposed to optimize the sensitivity and speed up the acquisition process. The combined technique provides a practical and hardware-agnostic approach for a wide range of N-V relaxometry applications.

Particle Filters: A Hands-On Tutorial

Jos Elfring et al.

Summary: The particle filter algorithm has become popular since the early 1990s and is widely used for solving estimation problems. Extensive research has improved the standard algorithm, making it more applicable, but selecting and implementing an advanced version of the particle filter can be challenging for those with limited hands-on experience. Lack of implementation details in theory-oriented papers further complicates this task.

Sequential Bayesian experiment design for adaptive Ramsey sequence measurements

Robert D. McMichael et al.

Summary: The paper introduces a sequential Bayesian experiment design protocol for optimizing efficiency in Ramsey measurements, comparing it to other protocols. The Bayesian design is shown to be 2-5 times faster when estimating a single parameter, and converges four times faster when estimating four parameters, compared to other methods.

Neural-Network Heuristics for Adaptive Bayesian Quantum Estimation

Lukas J. Fiderer et al.

Summary: Quantum metrology faces challenges in practice due to limited resources, but the adaptive Bayesian approach allows efficient resource utilization through adaptive experiment design. Fast numerical solutions for Bayesian updates and adaptive experiment design are crucial for practical success. Neural networks can be trained to develop fast and strong experiment-design heuristics, outperforming established heuristics for important quantum estimation tasks. This method complements existing techniques and forms a comprehensive framework for adaptive quantum estimation.
