Enhanced third-harmonic generation via gold nanospheres localized surface plasmonic resonance

Haiyuan Wei et al.

Summary: In this study, the progress of nanoengineering on noble metals and the extreme nonlinear optics within nanometric volumes are explored. Plasmonic nanostructures are found to offer a unique route for enhancing high-order harmonic generation and other nonlinear optical progress. The researchers demonstrated a strong third harmonic emission in zinc oxide microbelts through a strong localization of electromagnetic field caused by localized surface plasmon resonances. The intensity of third-harmonic generation was enhanced significantly in a composite of microbelts and Au nanoparticles, compared to the bare microbelts. Additionally, the polarization characteristics of the third-harmonic generation in the same system were improved significantly.

Photothermal-pyroelectric-plasmonic coupling for high performance and tunable band-selective photodetector

Yu Zhu et al.

Summary: By modulating the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect, the near-field absorption of metal nanoparticles array under light stimulation showed a significant difference. Leveraging the interfacial LSPR effect successfully overcame the spectral insensitivity of the pyroelectric devices. Additionally, the coupling effect between plasmonic metal NPs and ZnO nanowires led to ultra-fast heating process.

Enhanced UV Emission from ZnO on Silver Nanoparticle Arrays by the Surface Plasmon Resonance Effect

Xiao Wang et al.

Summary: Periodical silver nanoparticle arrays were fabricated by magnetron sputtering method on anodic aluminum oxide templates to enhance the UV light emission from ZnO through surface plasmon resonance effect. Theoretical simulations showed that the surface plasmon resonance wavelength depended on the diameter and space of Ag NP arrays. By introducing Ag NP arrays with specific diameter and space, the near band-edge emission intensity from ZnO was doubled. Time-resolved photoluminescence measurement and energy band analysis indicated that the enhancement was due to coupling between surface plasmons in Ag NP arrays and excitons in ZnO, resulting in improved spontaneous emission rate and enhanced local electromagnetic fields.
