The high-grade Fe skarn deposit of Jinling, North China Craton: Insights into hydrothermal iron mineralization

Qiuhong Xie et al.

Summary: Skarn-type Fe deposits constitute a major source of iron in the world, with 57% of high-grade iron ores in China hosted by skarn deposits. Research suggests a genetic link between skarn-type Fe deposits and associated magmas, with ore-forming hydrothermal fluids potentially mainly derived from magmas. Oxygen isotopes and fluid inclusions suggest relatively constant source of hydrothermal fluids and low-salinity fluids as the main ore-forming source for magnetite ores in these deposits.
