Nanosecond pulsed laser-induced formation of nanopattern on Fe-based metallic glass surface

Yongfeng Qian et al.

Summary: Fe-based metallic glasses with micro/nano-structures were fabricated on the surface by nanosecond pulsed laser irradiation technology, resulting in distinguished microstructures such as nanoparticles and network nanostructures. The formation mechanisms of these structures were attributed to laser-induced element enrichment and diffusion and connection of nanoparticles under the combined influence of recoil pressure and surface topography.

Structuring of the Ti6Al4V alloy surface by pulsed laser remelting

Andrzej Grabowski et al.

Summary: Experimental data on the structure, chemical composition, and wear resistance of a titanium alloy Ti6Al4V after pulsed laser treatment show that rapid solidification forms a new microstructure, affecting the surface's topography. Different laser pulse parameters can lead to desired surface texture, and femtosecond and picosecond pulse treatment creates micro/nano structures with good wear resistance. Nanosecond laser treatment results in an extended metal-oxide foam surface with transformed alpha-Ti phase.

Nanosecond laser cleaning for enhanced zinc coating quality of HSLA steel

Lixin Zhu et al.

Summary: In comparison to traditional pickling process, the zinc coating on the surface of industrial HSLA steel plate treated with laser cleaning pretreatment is more uniform, bright, and defect-free. Additionally, the surface textures created by laser cleaning help improve the coating's resistance to pulverization.

FeCrMoWCBY metallic glass with high corrosion resistance in molten lead-bismuth eutectic alloy

X. S. Wei et al.

Summary: The FeCrMoWCBY metallic glass showed excellent corrosion resistance in oxygen-saturated lead-bismuth eutectic at 500 degrees C. Adding the right amount of W element can enhance corrosion resistance, but excessive W can reduce it. The surface structure of the Fe-based metallic glass consists of an inner amorphous transition layer and an outer FeCr2O4 oxide nanocrystal layer, with the continuous amorphous layer acting as a diffusion barrier to prevent further corrosion.
